Bahamas Cruise

Back in December, Thomas surprised me with a cruise to the Bahamas on the Royal Caribbean cruise line. After months of what seemd like an awfully boring winter, all of a sudden the 23rd of March was here!

Thomas and I got to the Richmond airport SUPER early in the morning on Monday, and we were in Orlando by 9:00. The first shuttle to Port Canaveral wasn't until 10:30, so we had a nice time at the airport, finding Krispy Kreme for breakfast, and picking up some fun bath items at Lush.
The shuttle was 45 minutes late, but it was a nice drive on a slightly hazy day. Our driver was entertaining, and talked about the very flat, swampy floridian scenery we were seeing outside out windows.

Once we got to port, we stood in a long line to get our IDs for on the ship and then we walked on! We found our room right away on the 3rd floor of the ship. It was fairly close to the elevators and SUPER conveniently one floor away from the dining room.

Our room!
We went to the buffet for lunch right away (Thomas hadn't eaten anything since 9:30, so of course, he was starving.) It was noisy and crowded, but the food was REALLY good! I was impressed, and Thomas ate two plates. After watching a family reunion where all the adults already had drinks in their hands and the children were emptying the soft-serve machine, we went and explored the ship. The Enchantment of the Seas is a smaller ship for this cruise line, but we thought it was perfect. There were quite a number of bars (much to the pleasure of all the spring break college kids) a small theater, a spa and three small pools.

At dinner that night we met our dinner companions. Our table had just four chairs, so it was us and the other couple. They were Florida natives, she a schoolteacher for 4th grade, and he a tech guy for Sheraton. We exchanged all the usual getting to know you things, while waiting quite some time for our dinner. Thomas quickly got them to understand how important food is to him, and the gentleman was quite nice and waved down our bread guy three times before our appitizers came out.

Somehow we never took the camera into the dining room, so I don't quite remember what I had for dinner, but I remember that my appitizer was watermelon-raspberry cold soup with a dollap of creme fraiche. Quite quite delicious.

After dinner we went to the welcome show in the theater. I was impressed with the performers. you usually hear such derogatory things about cruise ship entertainment. I'll admit, the band that was there the first two days was quite iffy, but the actual dancers and singers were very good! We went to bed early, knowing we had to be ready to head out to Coco Cay at 8:15 the next morning.
