Rainy day

Meggy and I have been having a quiet few days. We had a long weekend where we drove all the way to Maryland for a friend's wedding, then visited with family. I loved being able to show off my baby to everyone who had seen me pregnant. Those were a HARD nine months, and I wanted to show everyone my reward!!

Drooly girl on the drive back to VA. She was so worn out by this point!

We are slowly trying to put this house in order. Now that Margaret is getting older, her stuff is taking over the house. The living room that seemed so nice and spacious is now one of the most crowded rooms in the house! We still don't have her room finished - Thomas is extra busy as always, and Margaret won't let me have enough time to myself to paint. The bathrooms are looking good though. I still need to find some prints or pictures for them, but other than that, they're looking good. I cleaned the sink area of Thomas' and my bathroom today, and made sure to snap a pic before it got messy again!

This is taken standing in the doorway of Margaret's room. Thomas' sink is on the left end. The sink o the right will be Meggy's, but I get it for now. :)

And this is taken standing in the doorway to our bathroom! Pretty nice, huh? You can see the door (in the mirror)  leading to the tub - I'd take a picture, but it's literally a tub, a toilet and a trash can. Not interesting. We want to buy something to put over the toilet for storage, and I'm keeping a lookout for some good pictures to put in there. I thought maybe putting vinyl on the walls, but I'm worried that it would fall off because of steam from the shower. Oh well, we're not in a hurry.

I keep trying to re-arrange the kitchen. It's the room I spend the most time in, after the living room, and I want it to be perfect. I've been very focused on stocking up the pantry, trying to get it so that we're more self-sustaining than we have been. Unfortunately, that means we really have to STOCK up on things! I tried after we got married, and I was able to do a little bit, but it was not something I focused on when I was working. It was just Thomas and myself (and I was the one working full-time) so he did a lot of the cooking, and we ate out a lot - one of the few perks of living in Baltimore was the food! Now that I'm home, and we're living on one salary, I really want to keep costs down by making as many things as I can from scratch. This means that we're going from having a very empty pantry, to trying to create a full one. This is great, and really does save money in the long run, but it means quite a bit up front. My wonderful parents gave us a Sam's Club membership, which has been awesome. I LOVE Sam's Club, and Costco. I have so many fond memories of going to both as a kid. I don't know what it is about wholesale warehouse shopping, but it invigorates me.

Thomas and I went to Sam's Club yesterday. It's about 45min away from us, so I try to only go when we REALLY need stuff, and usually have a very long list. I've been trying to get the essentials (got all my baking supplies last time) and this trip was cleaning supplies and lunch for Thomas. Spent WAY too much money, but it's all stuff we really needed to stock up on. I need to be better about budgeting, but I'm still trying to figure it all out. For some reason it was easier when I was making the money, lol. I need a personal budgeter….one that I don't have to pay for. I tried Mint.com, but it keeps glitching on me. Anyway, we DID get stuff that we really needed, so that's good at least.

Meggy was really good while we were there, and of course had lots of admirers. :) It makes me such a proud mama to see how well-behaved she is (at 3 ½ months) and see people whispering to each other about how cute she is. I'm like “I made that!!!”

Margaret's newest thing is being REALLY FUSSY in the afternoon. This afternoon we great - I was trying to clean the bathroom while she was screaming in her crib ( which is right next to the bathroom, and she could totally see me the whole time, so I don't know what her issue is) and all of a sudden Flynn came in and regurgitated this very long piece of elastic onto the floor. Apparently it's not just hair elastics, it's any elastic. Stupid cat.

Well this is getting to be a pretty long post. I figured it was time for a non-baby update.... Those are getting really hard to write. How did I do?
