June/July 2019

As usual it's been a while, but here are some summer updates for you!

Thomas has been working very very hard on our front yard and landscaping this spring and summer, getting it ready for the kiddo's big present for the year -  a swing set! This has involved cutting down trees, moving trees after professionals finished cutting them down, tilling growing grass, re-tilling, pulling out bushes, vines, weeds, poison ivy, and more. He also worked on the side yard, building a platform for the trash can to make things more functional, and pulling out all the weeds and things that have been growing up over the HVAC systems, and replacing them with mulch and butterfly bushes. I don't have any before/after photos (I was usually making dinner or distracting the children while he was working hard) but believe me when I say it has been a LOT of work

We tried some blueberry picking with friends in June, but what none of us realized was that it was the end of the season! Wren's face accurately shows the disappointment we all had.

This was our first Father's day in a while without Chip and Gail, which was a little hard for all of us. However, we did invite Mom and Dad over, which delighted the girls. They love to spend time with all their grandparents!!

Some big summer news -  Meggy has started loosing teeth!! She currently has three loose ones, and that second bottom one is going to fall out any day now. Meggy asked the tooth fairy to bring fairy jewels, and she found $2 and a necklace under her pillow the next morning!

I celebrated my 28th birthday, and then got to spend an entire weekend celebrating Arin's birthday with her, two weeks later! It was so much fun to have 4 kid-free days, and spend some time with my bestie!

Thomas and his brothers took a trip to the OBX during the 4th, so the girls and I celebrated with by going to breakfast at church, snagging some sparklers at Target, then had a movie day when we were rained out. SO much fun!

Speaking of rain we have had SO MUCH RAIN this summer! It's either been raining or scorching outside, so we have had to come up with some fun indoor activities. This was a super popular one, we built a tent, and 'roasted' marshmallows on chopsticks over a stuffed fire.

Both girls are growing by leaps and bounds! I wonder why it seems like kids grow more in the summer? In any case, Wren is now speaking so so well, and saying big words like "nervous" "complicated' and 'embarrassing". Meggy and I have been doing light school, mainly consisting of abc drills, Bob books, a little math, and reading Little House on the Prairie books.

Thomas has been killing it on the dates this summer! Our beloved babysitter is jetting off to college in August, so we are taking advantage of her as often as we can. This was a trip to see A Midsummer Night's Dream at a local winery, which was very good. We've also seen 3 movies, and went to a cooking demonstration!

Not to be left out of the fun, Meggy got to go to Toy Story 4 (eh storyline, but 5 stars for the amazing animation!)  and she and Wren both went to a daytime movie. Our theater runs older movies for a donation fee a few morning during the summer, and that was a great way to get Wren to the movies. She did okay, but isn't quite ready for a real movie just yet.

Did I mention it's been super hot? It was in the 90s every day for over two weeks, which is unusual for Virginia. A couple days in July and August maybe, but not for two weeks straight! We had to have a water fight one day to remedy this situation, and I think everyone highly enjoyed themselves.

The 50th anniversary of landing on the Moon was this month! We checked out a lot of books about the moon from the library, and also found this Moon phase project. We rarely have store-bought cookies in the house, so this was very special, and both of the girls thought it was an awesome project.

There you go! I'm going to do a separate post on our swing-set, as that deserves it's own post, but I wanted to show what we've been up to this summer!
